To origami enthusiasts Kinokuniya is a paradise. This Japanese bookstore is located on 49 Street between 5th and sixth avenue was in Manhattan (10 West 49th St., New York, NY 10020).
They sell great variety of origami paper and books, and many books on different subjects (art, design, architecture, cooking, etc.) A few years ago, I bought a book by a children’s book author who I admire: Mitsumasa Anno. This book is not a children’s book, but seems to be a travel journal. I don’t read Japanese, but I love the exquisite watercolors that illustrate the book.

Kinokuniya sells also stationary, school supplies and charming little knick-knacks. In my last visit I found a group of four miniature hens, which are also magnets. I bought them. They exercised total magnetism over me!
