In order to direct the attendees to the new room for the monthly origami meeting that I host, on the door I hung a sign: ‘Origami – here’. When I returned home, I placed the sign on my drawing table to remember that I wanted to print it again on a new piece of paper.
On a recent morning, the sunshine fell on a paper dove that I have hanging from my lamp, and its shadow was projected on the sign. On the table, near the sign I had tools that I use to fold and some paper shirts that I had been folding for an event in the next origami convention in New York. That set of objects that came together by chance on my table made me think how origami, throughout the years, has become so significant in my life. I decided to photograph them.
I have fallen into the temptation of beginning a blog. I hope I will have the motivation to do it regularly. Origami will be a thread of this braid, and I will be discovering what other threads will be woven.

Having an origami blog is a lot of fun- and it gives you a reason to remain active with origami!
Keep up the good work, and good luck!
Thank you Eric. I love your blog!
I think I recognize the model in the photograph as a flapping bird and I was wondering if you could recommend a book that has other simple and classic action models.
Hi J. Eyre,
The model in the photo is actually a ‘peace dove’ created by Alice Gray. This one doesn’t flap its wings! I folded it from instructions in a book called “Origami, the complete guide to the Art of paper folding” by Rick Beech, which has a number of nice traditional models. For a video on how to fold the flapping bird, you might want to check this link! For flapping-bird diagrams visit Rachel Katz’ site.
